Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez has revealed that he spoke to Sergio Aguero before deciding to secure a move from River Plate to the Etihad.
The 22-year-old put pen to paper on a five-and-a-half-year contract in January but remained at River Plate on loan until the end of the 2021-22 season.
When presented to the Man City fans for the first time, Alvarez expressed his desire to help Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens maintain their status as Premier League champions.
"We knew a long time ago I was coming," the Argentine said. "Thankfully I’m here now and I’m looking forward to starting and helping my team and the club.
"Obviously there’s a lot of players in the attack. There are loads of players who can help and contribute and I’m looking forward to helping out.
"I just arrived yesterday. This is a great city, it’s really exciting and I can’t wait to start playing.
"Basically I will bring goals, assists, and helping the team in the attacking line. I don’t really have an amount of goals in mind, but first I want to adapt and help the team and I want the team to succeed.
"Obviously there’s a long history of Argentine players in the club. I spoke to Kun Aguero, Nicolas Otamendi and Carlos Tevez. I want to continue my own story like other Argentinians have done and bring success to the club."
