Abu Dhabi trip wasn't the cause for the FA Cup defeat.

The Premier League champions lost 2-0 to Middlesbrough at the Etihad on Saturday and Manuel Pellegrini said there was simply no excuse for the shocking FA Cup defeat at home.

In their last two home games, the Citizens have failed to find the back of the net and the City boss was quite worried as he revealed in his press conference after the FA Cup clash.

The Chilean also refused to accept the trip to Abu Dhabi was a reason for the defeat as he told reporters they could choose that as a reason if they wanted to but he felt injuries which his strikers suffered recently played a major part in the loss.

“The problem is we’ve had to change our style of play – we had no strikers for a month,” Pellegrini said.

“After that, they’re coming back and maybe they needed time to reach their best performances but we have to retain the way we normally play.

“We will start working towards the Chelsea game now… we have no problem with motivation.”
