Advocaat has told Rodwell it's time to start making the most of his ability.

Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat has told Jack Rodwell that he must shape-up if he is to kick-start his career at the Stadium of Light.

The former Everton and Manchester City midfielder hasn't lived up to expectations after his £10m move from the Etihad to Wearside 12 months ago.

However, Advocaat is hoping Rodwell can make the most of his talent.

"I've had a lot of words with Jack because he is such a talented player," said the Black Cats boss.

"He has not shown that for me, and he knows that. It has not all been down to him, because it has also been because of his physical state. It has to be better."

He continued: "As I see him training now, he looks positive. Jack's former team-mate at Everton Ross Barkley, now he's the type I like.

"Rodwell was like that, he got a move to Manchester City and it didn't really work out for him, so he has to do well for this club now."
