A few days ago, George Alaba, the father and agent of David Alaba, Bayern Munich's talented young left-back, held a meeting in Vienna with various Real Madrid representatives to discuss the possibility of his son signing for 'Los Blancos'.
In December 2013, Alaba penned a new contract with Bayern binding him to the Bavarian giants until June 2018. When he signed the new deal, the player sounded an upbeat note about the future and said that he hoped to hang up his boots at the Allianz Arena.
Alaba joined the German club in the summer of 2008 and by February 2010, at the tender age of 17, he had made his debut for the first team. He soon became a regular under Jupp Heynckes, a trend that continued with Pep Guardiola, and is now a key figure in the team's line-up.
The situation seems to have changed somewhat and his father is now considering a move. Alaba is keen to seek new horizons but if he is to keep winning trophies his options are quite limited should he choose to leave Bayern. For that purpose, Real Madrid are at the very top of his wishlist.
Bayern Munich aren't about to give up on the player and the decision is entirely down to the young defender. Real Madrid don't want to get into a squabble with the German club over Alaba and the player's exit is not a straightforward matter, especially when you consider the €40 million price tag. Nevertheless, the plan is to strengthen Real Madrid's squad with the best the market has to offer, and Alaba certainly fits the bill.
Alaba will have the final say and it's up to him to make the first move. Only he can decide whether to stay at Bayern Munich or pack his bags for the Bernabéu.
