Tottenham boss Antonio Conte was happy with how his Lilywhites beat Crystal Palace on Boxing Day, adding that 'there is a lot of improvement to be made' going forward.

Goals from Harry Kane, Lucas Moura, and Heung-Min Son handed the north London club a vital win over the Eagles at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“It was three important points. We started a bit slow but then we got chances to score and we scored the first and second goals and to play against 10 men was easier for us,” Conte said.

“But sometimes despite this, it happens against 10 men that I have lost in my career and the focus and attention of my players and attitude was good. It was a good performance. The most important thing now is to recover well because in two days we have a very difficult game against Southampton.

“There is a lot of space for improvement. To keep a clean sheet is always important but at the same time to score three goals was positive for our strikers. There were a lot of positive things after this game but in two days everything can change. "I tried to give a rest to Harry [Kane] and Son [Heung-min], especially Harry because he plays every game but he is such an important player it is difficult to think about keeping him on the bench." The Italian also admitted that it will be "difficult" to rotate Kane, who opened the scoring before Lucas Moura doubled their lead. The England captain Kane scored only once in the league before the 19th of December but has scored back-to-back goals against Liverpool and Palace in the league.

"I always say we are talking about a top-class striker and a player that for us is very important," Conte told BBC Sport. "Today I had the possibility to give him a bit of rest and for him to play only 60 minutes was important. Kane is a player it is very difficult to decide to put in a rotation."

'Each game we are improving'

Brazil forward Lucas Moura also expressed his delight after the match, saying they are improving under Conte’s leadership. He explained: “Very nice. I’m very happy. It was a special day for me and my family. A very important three points. It was a solid performance. In each game we are improving. We just need to keep going this way. "It was a nice goal and a nice ball from Emerson [Royal] as well." On winning the ball back quickly, Lucas said: “Every game we are improving this point. When we try to recover the ball back quickly we have quick players up front that can cause problems. “It is not bad [league position]. There are a lot of games to play. We are taking it step by step and game by game and working hard. If we keep going this way we can think about big things." Spurs are unbeaten in six league games under Conte and are six points behind fourth-place Arsenal with three games in hand.
