Argentina team doctor casts doubts over Messi's fitness for El Clasico.

Argentina team doctor Homero de Agostino has cast doubts over the availability of Lionel Messi for the El Clasico against Real Madrid.

Lionel Messi has been out of action since September after sustaining a knee ligament damage.

"The risk of aggravating the injury if Messi plays the Clasico is high," he told Cadena SER, reports goal.com.

"I don't think that he can get in condition to play the Clasico," he said.

"The coach [Luis Enrique] cannot rely on a newly recovered player."

Messi was also left out of the Argentina squad that will face Brazil in the 2018 FIFA world cup qualifier on Thursday.
