Arsenal Closing In On Swedish Sharpshooter Gyökeres
The Viktor Gyokeres-to-Arsenal saga has taken a decisive turn. The Gunners have now agreed personal terms with the prolific Sporting Lisbon striker, with Mikel Arteta pushing hard to seal the deal before pre-season takes flight.
According to the Mail, negotiations are progressing swiftly, and all signs point to North London as Gyokeres’ next destination. The 26-year-old, who notched a jaw-dropping 54 goals last season, has made no secret of his desire to join Arsenal, despite Manchester United, Juventus, and even Saudi suitors sniffing around.
Determined To Join The Project
According to sources close to the negotiations, Gyokeres has his heart set on the Emirates. United boss Ruben Amorim had hoped to reunite with him, but the Swede only had eyes for Arteta’s Arsenal, a young, hungry team building something special.
A five-year deal is expected once a fee is agreed. Sporting are holding firm, demanding a package just under £70m. That figure exceeds the striker’s supposed exit clause, and tension recently bubbled when Gyokeres accused the Portuguese club of backtracking on a gentleman's agreement to let him leave for £60m.

But the impasse may finally be breaking. After a fresh round of weekend talks, the vibe is shifting. Arsenal want their man on the plane to Singapore for their pre-season tour kicking off July 19, and Gyokeres wants to be on it.
A Goal Machine With Unfinished Business In England
For those who forgot or never noticed, Gyokeres once had a quiet spell at Brighton. Just eight appearances, one goal. Loan stints at St Pauli and Swansea followed. But it was at Coventry City where he exploded: 43 goals in two-and-a-half seasons.
Then came Sporting. And boom, 97 goals in 102 games. That’s not just good form. That’s elite, world-class form.
Arsenal’s No 9 Conundrum Nears Its End
Arteta struggled last season with makeshift striker options. Injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz forced him to deploy Mikel Merino up top on occasion, which was not ideal. The manager made it clear: this summer needed a top-tier striker, and Gyokeres fits the bill.
While Benjamin Sesko was once top of the list, and Ollie Watkins considered, Arsenal's focus shifted to a player who simply keeps scoring, no matter the league or the pressure.
Berta’s Busy Summer Rolls On
New sporting director Andrea Berta has hit the ground running. With Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi already through the door, Gyokeres would be the latest addition in a high-stakes window.
Arteta said it himself last May: “It’s going to be a big one.” And if this deal gets across the line, it might just be the biggest yet.
Viktor Gyokeres wants to be a Gunner. Arsenal want him in red and white. The finish line is close, and the Emirates might just be about to welcome their new No. 9.
