David Luiz transfer rumours have been fuelled by the defender, who says he has spoken to Benfica.

Arsenal centre-back David Luiz has revealed he held talks with Benfica president LuIs Filipe Vieira over a "dream" return to the Portuguese club.

The Brazilian sealed a move to the Emirates from west London side Chelsea last summer for a reported fee of £8m just after Laurent Koscielny left the Gunners to join Bordeaux.

According to widespread reports, Luiz is on the verge of leaving the north London club after his deal runs out this summer, however, the 33-year-old says he will be delighted to end his career at the Estádio Sport Lisboa e Benfica.

Speaking to Portuguese outlet Record, Luiz said: “I already spoke with Vieira about the return... My dream is to end my career at Benfica.

“When, I don't know, but it will happen... it will if President Vieira allows me and if the fans want me to come back.

“It will be one of the most beautiful moments of my career.”

The Brazil international is thought to be earning £110,000-a-week at Arsenal, but the Mirror reports that he will have to take a £38,0000-a-week pay-cut to secure his dream move back to Benfica.
