Arsenal Legend: The humbling in the Allianz Arena proves Wenger's side are far off Europe's

The Gunners were schooled by Bayern in the Champions League in midweek, and Arsenal legend Paul Merson said the result proved the north London club are miles behind the best sides in Europe.

Arsenal were beaten 5-1 at the Allianz Arena and Merson who was clearly disappointed with the defeat gave his take in his Daily Star column.

"The team Arsene Wenger has put together is supposed to be able to win the league.

"He has big-name signings that cost loads of money there now like Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, and a top keeper in Petr Cech. But they are still a million miles away from the top teams in Europe.

"When you go to Bayern you have to know you’re going to be under the cosh," he added. "You have to keep it tight. But they haven’t got a clue how to do that. When I was at Arsenal we were well drilled."
