Gyökeres: Arsenal Were Eager To Respond After Anfield defeat.
Arsenal striker Viktor Gyökeres reflected on a commanding 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest by highlighting the squad’s determination to respond after their defeat at Anfield before the international break.
The Swedish forward, who scored his first Emirates goal in red and white, underlined how important it was for the side to re-establish momentum.
“We came back and we wanted to do a better performance than the last game [at Liverpool], I think we did that so a great day,” he told TNT Sports after the match.
Gyökeres struck Arsenal’s second of the day early in the second half, arriving in the six-yard box to tap home after an incisive move created by Eberechi Eze.
The goal set the tone for the remainder of the contest, as Mikel Arteta’s men maintained their grip on proceedings and secured a result that re-energised the atmosphere around the Emirates.
“It feels amazing, a great feeling to score and get the win as well,” the striker said, acknowledging both his own contribution and the wider team display.
The summer signing has quickly integrated into Arteta’s frontline, benefitting from the creative support of wide players Noni Madueke and Eze. Both offered constant movement and invention throughout the afternoon, a combination Gyökeres was eager to praise.
“Those two are amazing in their positions, they always do something special. We definitely saw that today,” he noted, pointing to the fluid attacking combinations that unsettled Forest’s back line from start to finish.
Attention also turned to Martin Zubimendi, who marked his own breakthrough performance with a brace. The Spaniard’s first was a crisp volley that deflected beyond Matz Sels, while his second came from a powerful header late on.
Gyökeres admitted he was surprised by his teammate’s scoring display. “I haven’t seen him do that in training, to be fair, so it was good that he pulled that one out. The header as well, I was a bit surprised with that, but great to see him score two,” he said with a smile.
While three points secured their immediate focus, Gyökeres was already looking ahead to the European stage. Arsenal return to Champions League action this week, with the striker eager to carry the momentum into continental competition.
“We focus on this game, now we have the game in the Champions League on Tuesday. It’s a competition that we want to compete in, so we’ll go there and try our best to win them all,” he insisted, outlining the ambition that continues to drive the Gunners forward.
