Gerard Pique is confident Barcelona will do well going forward following their 1-0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao on Friday night.

The Blaugrana were taking aback by Aritz Aduriz's 89th minute strike at San Mames as Ernesto Valverde's side failed to start the new LaLiga campaign in flying colours.

However, Pique has focussed on the positives, saying going forward they'll recharge their batteries.

"When you're not great, they take advantage."

"We'll do well going forward," he said after the loss as Marca reported. "It's better to lose now than at the end of the season. We can charge our batteries."

Pique added that playing against Athletic away from the Camp Nou has never been easy for Barca, only if they are at their best which wasn't the case last night.

"It's a very difficult place," the former Man United centre-back said in reference to San Mames.

"The competition has put us in our place. It wasn't easy and they pressed us a lot.

"When you're not great, they take advantage."
