Barcelona have enquired to Paris Saint-Germain regarding the availability of Manchester City target Marco Verratti.
The midfielder has been one of the French champions star performers this season, with his performances against Chelsea in the Champions League a particular highlight.
During that last-16 clash, Blues midfielder Cesc Fabregas explained how Verratti reminded him of Xavi and now Barcelona appear to have agreed with that opinion.
According to Le Parisien, the Catalan giants have contacted PSG in the hope a deal can be agreed for the 22-year-old.
The Italian is reportedly viewed as the ideal replacement for legendary midfielder Xavi, who is expected to leave Barcelona in the summer.
One stumbling block for any deal is FIFA's enforcement of a transfer ban on Barcelona, which forbids them from signing players until January 2016.
However, the Spanish club are hoping a deal can be agreed in principle this summer with the move then being completed six months later.
