Bayern Munich are ready to battle Manchester United for the signature of Ilkay Gundogan.
The midfielder will have one year remaining on his contract with Borussia Dortmund in the summer and is expected to leave the club.
Manchester United have already been linked with a £20m bid as manager Louis van Gaal looks to bolster his squad for next season.
However, according to Bild, Bayern Munich have now contacted Dortmund to express their interest in the 24-year-old.
The German champions have poached Dortmund's star players in both of the previous summer transfer windows - signing Mario Gotze in 2013 and Robert Lewandowski a year later.
And they are now determined to make it three in a row with Pep Guardiola placing Gundogan high on his list of summer transfer targets.
