Yannick Bolasie says people get Saido Berahino "a bit wrong" and he would like the West Bromwich attacker to join him at Crystal Palace.
According to widespread reports, the Eagles have placed a bid for Berahino, who is keen to seal a move away from The Hawthornes.
However, Bolasie is hoping his friend joins Alan Pardew's side this summer as he welcomes competition for places in the Palace squad.
He told Sky Sports News HQ: "I know Saido and he would be a good signing. I think he's a top lad. Everyone gets him a bit wrong but he's a top guy.
“It's good to see fresh faces come through the door, especially with what we're seeing in the Premier League so far; the managers that have come in and players coming in from all over the world.
“It's part of football I guess. I haven't had it easy where I've come from, I'll be looking forward to battling. It's a buzz for the whole team. Football is all about competition and I'm looking forward to that."
