Newcastle's winning streak continued on Saturday following their 1-0 victory over Liverpool at St James' Park.
Alan Pardew's side registered their 4th win on the bounce as a goal from Ayoze saw the Magpies defeat Brendan Rodgers' men who had a good start to the match but could not find the net.
Ayoze Perez broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute to give Newcastle the lead and Liverpool boss reckons they were punished for mistakes made by the team.
“We passed the ball well,” said the Liverpool boss.
“The options in front of the ball were good but we probably lacked that little bit in the final third of the field. We did not create as much as we would have liked.”
Rodgers added: “It is not about Mario Balotelli, it is about the team. We lost the game today. We collectively lost as a team and we are disappointed at that.”
Liverpool travel to Spain to face the Champions League defending champions, Real Madrid, on Tuesday night before a Premiership clash against Chelsea at Anfield next Saturday.
