Brendan Rodgers believes that winning the FA Cup this season would help Liverpool attract star players in the summer.
The Merseyside outfit are facing the prospect of a season without Champions League football, with the Reds currently in fifth place in the Premier League table and four points behind Manchester City heading into the final six games of the campaign.
Liverpool are aiming to reach the FA Cup final when they take on Aston Villa at Wembley on Sunday as they look to finish the season with a trophy.
And Anfield boss Rodgers feels that lifting the prestigious cup would show potential recruits that the Reds are poised to challenge for trophies in the coming seasons.
Speaking to LFC TV, Rodgers said: “I think it [winning some silverware] is going to be important for us. I think you cannot underestimate the confidence it will give to the players when they are up on the podium and having won a trophy.
“Players who will come in here in the future, it is important for them to think that this is a place where they can come and win.”
He added: “For us to win a trophy this year would really springboard forward the development of the team and that is something we are pushing very hard to do.”
Liverpool beat Newcastle 2-0 at Anfield on Monday night to keep alive their faint hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
The Reds’ next Premier League game is a trip to West Brom on 25 April.
