Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown is convinced the Black Cats’ good defence can help them ahead of the season as they look to climb of the Barclays Premier League table.
Wes Brow made a return to first-team action against Liverpool after he missed their 4-1 defeat to Premier League Champions Man City, and was happy to have gotten a clean sheet on his return.
Sunderland are the only team to have stopped league leaders Chelsea from scoring a goal this season and have also kept three clean sheets in their previous four matches.
“We’re becoming a force to be reckoned with and proving to be a side that’s difficult for sides to beat - that is a good thing but now we need to add goals to that,” Brown told Safc.com.
“We seem to be just lacking that cutting edge because we’re creating chances but just not putting them away, which would have made all the difference at Anfield.”
He continued: “We know we’re capable of getting in positions to create scoring opportunities, that’s a bonus and it’s then about getting the goals in.
“Defensively we were solid and we’re really happy with the clean sheet, but at the other end I should have scored on Saturday.”
