Bryan Mbeumo Was All Smiles During His First Man Utd Training Session
Bryan Mbeumo barely had time to catch his breath after sealing his £71 million move from Brentford before diving straight into life at Manchester United.
On the morning of July 22, just hours after officially becoming a Red Devil, the 25-year-old forward laced up his boots for his first training session at Carrington, and judging by the wide grin plastered across his face, he’s already feeling right at home.
The Cameroon international, whose arrival from west London comes with a £65m upfront fee plus £6m in add-ons, wasted no time joining his new teammates on the pitch.
His transfer had been the subject of a summer-long tug of war, with Arsenal, Newcastle, and even Tottenham, managed by his former boss Thomas Frank, all keen on his signature. But Mbeumo’s heart was set on Old Trafford, and on Monday, July 21, that dream finally came true.
As the Red Devils geared up for their pre-season tour of the United States, Mbeumo was already showing signs of settling in.
The morning drills saw him greeted warmly by senior players like Harry Maguire and Rasmus Højlund, with Andre Onana, a fellow Cameroonian, even sharing a seat beside him on the team jet bound for Chicago. There, Mbeumo could make his first appearance in a United shirt in Sunday’s friendly against West Ham.
His enthusiasm comes with a clear sense of purpose. Speaking after his signing, Mbeumo shared: “As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams.”
He also spoke of his hunger to grow under new boss Ruben Amorim and alongside world-class teammates, the kind of mindset United’s dressing room sorely needs after last season’s attacking struggles.
Jason Wilcox, United’s director of football, hailed Mbeumo’s arrival as a major coup, praising his Premier League consistency and eye for goal.
The stats back it up as Mbeumo hit 20 league goals for Brentford last season, helping him amass a total of 70 strikes in 242 appearances for the Bees since joining them from Troyes in 2019.
Now wearing the No.19 shirt once again, he’ll be hoping to bring that same firepower to a United side that desperately needs goals.
With Mbeumo joining recent arrivals Matheus Cunha and teenage defender Diego Leon, United’s recruitment drive appears to be slowing, at least for now, as they balance the books.
But with Bryan already making friends and soaking up the Carrington atmosphere, fans will be eager to see if he can deliver on the pitch as quickly as he’s settled off it.
