Manchester City have agreed a £49m deal with Liverpool for England winger Raheem Sterling - who is keen on a move away from Anfield.

And former Red defender Carragher says £49million represents a great value for the 20-year-old.

Writing on Kicca, he said: "Raheem Sterling is a very good young player but he has not yet hit the heights of an Owen, Rooney, Fowler or Giggs at this stage of his career so there's no doubt 49 million is a great deal for Liverpool.

"The price is not something Raheem can control and the debate will rage about whether he's worth it or not but the price is more to do with nationality and potential, what he can become rather than what he is right now, but if he can take Man City to more titles and get close to CL success they'll deem it worth it."
