A narrow defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford could have soured the mood in Manchester United’s camp, but veteran midfielder Casemiro struck a tone of optimism, insisting that the club is heading in the right direction under Ruben Amorim.
The Brazilian, who partnered captain Bruno Fernandes at the heart of midfield, admitted the 1-0 reverse was disappointing but highlighted the performance as a step forward compared to last season’s struggles.
“Manchester United always has to think about the victory,” Casemiro said as Manutd.com reported. “I’m not going to say that losing is okay, we have to win. Manchester United always has to win. I think we have shown good moments, and we have played much better today, but we have to look for the victory. We are on the right path now.”
Arsenal’s early breakthrough from a set piece ultimately proved decisive, yet United enjoyed long spells of control, creating chances and pressing with more intensity than fans had grown accustomed to in previous campaigns. That improvement, Casemiro argued, is the foundation the team must build upon.
“We have a good connection and that’s the path we are taking,” he explained. “In the last few years, we have reached several finals, such as the Europa League, and the thing missing is to win. Few clubs win these cups and we need to continue thinking about winning these trophies and to continue improving.”
Beyond footballing matters, the 33-year-old was equally clear about his situation. Amid summer speculation linking him with a move away, Casemiro underlined his happiness in Manchester, brushing off the outside noise.
“I am very happy here. My family is happy here. I enjoy every day at Carrington and at Old Trafford. If people talk from the outside, that’s fine, it doesn’t interest me. I just want to focus on winning.”
United may have left empty-handed on the opening weekend, but in Casemiro’s words and body language, there was belief, belief that Amorim’s men are taking the right steps to compete.
