Rashford’s swerving 30-yard free-kick helped United beat Frank Lampard’s Blues for the second time this season.

Manchester United knocked Chelsea out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night as Marcus Rashford’s double handed the visitors a third straight win in all competitions.

The Red Devils beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Marcus Rashford scored a great free-kick to wrap up the win after Michy Batshuayi cancelled out his opener from the penalty spot in the 25th minute when referee Paul Tierney awarded a penalty for Marcos Alonso’s challenge on Daniel James.

Chelsea, who had won seven games on the bounce, had more possession than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side but Rashford’s swerving 30-yard free-kick helped United beat Frank Lampard’s Blues for the second time this season. Rashford told Sky Sports after the match: "We’ve been in a tough place. We’re still getting through that phase.

"The only way to get through it is to fight through it and win because they’re the things which keep everyone happy. When you’ve won, you wake up with a good feeling. The main focus was improvement and development.

"We’re definitely going places, from pre-season we did a lot of good work. The start of the season wasn’t what we expected but we’ve got to get through it."

The quarter-final draw will take place on Thursday at about 08:45 GMT on BBC Radio 2's Zoe Ball Breakfast Show.
