The Blues’ Premier League title challenge took a blow when the Seagulls scored a dying minute equaliser.

A furious Thomas Tuchel was short of words after he saw his Chelsea side play out a 1-1 draw with Brighton on Wednesday night.

The German believes his Blues did enough to seal a win today and also complained again about how the busy festive schedule is affecting his side.

Chelsea looked like they were going to take all three points and stay three points clear of fellow title contenders Liverpool when Romelu Lukaku broke the deadlock with a brilliant header in the 28th minute.

It was the Belgian’s first top-flight start since October and he gave the visitors enough trouble, running them raggedy for long periods.

However, Brighton turned up the heat as the Seagulls mounted a lot of pressure on the hosts for the majority of the second half.

They carved out 18 chances in total at Stamford Bridge but it was Welbeck’s late header which met Marc Cucurella's cross that eventually counted.

It is definitely a night to forget for Tuchel, with Chelsea losing defenders Reece James and Andreas Christensen to injury.

'Circumstances are against us'

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel talking to BBC: "A draw about right? Absolutely not. We had better chances and a clear penalty. Very disappointing.

"We are struggling but we have again two injured players. If the ref does not want to give a penalty when it is a clear 100% penalty.

“Circumstances are against us. 100 % penalty, you ask the ref not me. Our players are Injured. I told you what would happen weeks ago. Same thoughts, I told you. "Sure we are tired, if you had been in bed for 10 days and played Premier League after that you would be tired."

Brighton goal hero Danny Welbeck told Amazon Prime: "It's a well-deserved point. It was a good technical performance as well as a physical one.

"To get a point here is big for us. I was outside warming up at half-time so I don't know what the manager said at half-time.

"But we created a lot of chances and we're happy to come away with a point."
