Dries Mertens transfer from Napoli is off the table. Reports linking Dries Mertens with a move to Chelsea football club have been swept aside after the forward put pen to paper on a three-year deal with Serie A club Napoli. The Belgian's contract at the San Paolo Stadium was set to expire this summer, but the Gli Azzurri decided to hold onto the 33-year-old, reports the Guardian. Inter Milan were also interested in the winger Mertens, but he is now looking forward to continuing his career in Naples after ignoring their advances.

All in all, clubs interested in Mertens saw this coming as he revealed his desire to stay in Italy last week.

Sky Sports Italia reported him saying: "I'm happy at Napoli and I want to stay. I really like Italy. I am good there and they treat me good.

"Yes there was interest [from Chelsea], and from other clubs also, but in my head there was never an intention to change clubs. This season was really good. I am going to try and be even better next year."
