Chelsea have been handed clarity on Liam Delap’s condition after the striker suffered a hamstring injury during the early stages of the 2025-26 campaign.
The 22-year-old forward, who pulled 14 minutes into the Blues’ third league outing against Fulham at Stamford Bridge, will not require surgery and is expected to be sidelined for around ten weeks before resuming full training.
The initial setback looked troubling as he was forced off in the first half, but medical assessments have provided a more positive outlook. Delap’s move to Stamford Bridge came in the summer following Ipswich Town’s relegation, with Chelsea activating a release clause to bring him in.
He had made a bright start under Enzo Maresca, earning two Premier League starts from the opening three fixtures, before this injury halted his momentum. The timing was especially cruel given the international break, where he had been pushing for further involvement with England’s youth setup.
The projected recovery places Delap on track to return in November, positioning him for the demanding winter run where fixtures come thick and fast.
That period often proves decisive in shaping the season’s direction, so having the striker available again before the festive schedule will be a welcome boost. The absence of surgery also means a smoother rehabilitation process, reducing the risk of long-term complications.
In the meantime, attention turns to how Maresca manages his attacking options. Joao Pedro is expected to spearhead the attack more regularly, though that creates a tactical dilemma with Cole Palmer also sidelined.
To ease the strain, Chelsea have recalled Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland, adding another centre-forward option to the squad. The reshuffle highlights how Delap’s setback has already influenced planning at Stamford Bridge.
While his absence will be felt, the news that Delap is set for a straightforward recovery offers encouragement.
If his return stays on schedule, the striker will be back in contention in time to contribute during one of the busiest stretches of the season, with the opportunity to reignite the promising start he had made in Chelsea colours.
