Chelsea target Everton defender John Stones for summer transfer... and also check on team-mate Seamu
Chelsea are keen on signing Everton's stylish young defender John Stones.
The England international only joined Everton from Barnsley in 2013 for £3million but has quickly matured into one of the most promising players of his generation.
The 20-year-old has benefited from playing alongside Phil Jagielka at the heart of Everton's defence and has shown great confidence in his ability to read the game and bring the ball out of defence.
He gave an assured display against Manchester United last month and scored his first Everton goal in the 3-0 win.
Jose Mourinho rates Stones highly and likes the fact he can also perform at right-back where he began at Barnsley. Chelsea have also checked on his team-mate Seamus Coleman.
Everton would be reluctant to sell Stones and manager Roberto Martinez said last week he would do everything to keep him at Goodison.
However, Everton know Chelsea could make an offer that is difficult to refuse.
Stones has the added bonus that he is homegrown which is also appealing to Chelsea but the obvious concern for the youngster is whether he would command a regular starting place rather than continue to develop and play regularly with Everton.
