Tom Cleverly says the Toffees boss Roberto Martinez was also a drive to his decision to seal a move to Goodison Park.
England international Cleverly completed his move from Manchester United to Everton last month after spending the 2014/15 season on loan at Villa Park.
It's not the first time the midfielder has worked under the Everton boss but it was a loan spell at Wigan five years ago.
However, the former United man is looking forward to working with Martinez again and says the Club’s history, fan base and squad were part of his reasons for ignoring a permanent deal at Aston Villa.
Cleverley said: "I think Roberto is a great manager and I'm massively looking forward to working with him again.
"We obviously had a year at Wigan together that I really enjoyed.
Tom Cleverley (right) is officially unveiled as an Everton player by manager Roberto Martinez on Wednesday.
"He knows me and he knows how I like to play, so hopefully we can hit it off again come the start of the season.
"The move happened quite quickly, but he told me about how passionate the fans are here and about the young players who play high-energy football like myself, so hopefully I can fit right in with the squad.
"Getting back into Europe is definitely something I'm thinking about.
"European football is something clubs this size deserve to be in and I've had good experiences in Europe in the past, so hopefully there is more to come at Everton."
