The north London club came from behind to seal a 3-1 win over the Shrimps on Sunday afternoon.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte expressed his delight after his Lilywhites found the right solution to seal a spot in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Morecombe defender Antony O'Connor broke the deadlock with a side-footed volley in the 33rd minute, sending the travelling crowd into ecstasy. But the visitors’ hopes of securing an away win against the Premier League club was put to a stop when Harry Winks and substitutes Lucas Moura and Harry Kane all found the back of the net. And following the win, Spurs manager Conte, who made a host of changes to his team that started the match, was pleased they registered a win to move into the next round of football’s oldest competition but he did point out that they ‘struggled a lot.’
Conte: ‘We struggled a lot.’
The Italian told BBC Sport: “Our target was to go to the next round and we won the game. For sure we struggled a lot in the first part of the game and conceded a goal from the set-piece. “We deserve to win because in these type of games you have to show your strength. They defended with 11 players and that’s normal in these games but it is important to find the right solution.”
Winks: 'Harsh words at half-time.’
Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks, who scored his side's equaliser, told BBC Radio 5 Live that they received harsh words from Conte when they were trailing 1-0 at the time.
“We only have ourselves to blame. It was a poor performance from start to finish,” Winks said. “We need to settle nerves and score. We didn't do that and it was a poor performance.
“It wasn't a good enough performance and we were sloppy at times. Everybody could have upped their game a lot. At half-time, there were harsh words said.”
When asked about his equalising goal, he replied: "I meant that free-kick. My thought process was to aim for the far corner, try to connect to it, and if I don't someone can get ahead to it."
