Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian has revealed that legends Alessandro Nesta and Paolo Maldini were his heroes as a young footballer.
Darmian, who was signed from Torino in the summer, said this in an exclusive interview for Inside United, the official Manchester United magazine.
"I think Nesta and Maldini were the two for me as they were two of the best defenders in the world at that time. They were my idols," Darmian said, manutd.com reports.
Asked about his personality, he said: "I am a very chilled person, maybe a little bit shy. I like spending my free time with my girlfriend, just hanging out together and going to the cinema or watching a film at home. I’m just the same as everybody else, really."
Darmian also spoke of his desire to win trophies with United: "United are a club that is used to winning lots of trophies and my ambition is to win as many games as possible in order to help us lift this silverware as we go forward."
