Pogba can unlock doors for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Denis Irwin has lauded Paul Pogba as he believes Manchester United’s hopes of having a successful season relies on the Frenchman.
The World Cup winner was pushing for a move away from Old Trafford all summer but nothing materialised as United weren’t prepared to listen to any offers for the midfielder.
Nonetheless, former defender Irwin, who scored 22 goals from 368 appearances for United, reckons a consistent Pogba will help the Red Devils overcome an indifferent start to the season.
Solskjaer’s side have already dropped seven points in their opening four matches of the 2019-20 Premier League season as they sit in eighth place in the table.
"There's not too many players of Paul's quality," Irwin told Sky Sports. "He's got plenty of players in front of him who have got great pace and I think he's got the understanding of being able to pick a great pass.
"We need consistency out of him sometimes but going forward now and particularly where we've started dominating games he's going to be a big, big player for us.
"I think every team needs a risk taker but I look at him and think he's the one that can unlock doors.
"We've created enough chances to win games so he's going to be vitally important for us."
