Angel di Maria was named in the FIFA World Team of the Year at the Ballon D’or award gala after his excellent performances over the course of the year and was the only Premier League player to be given that honour.
Before completing his record transfer to Manchester United in the summer, the Argentine shone in Real Madrid’s Champions League winning side and was rightly named the man of the match in the final defeat of city rivals Atletico.
He also guided his country to the final of the World Cup, where they narrowly lost out to Germany, scoring a sensational winner against Switzerland along the way.
The other midfielders who were named alongside him were Toni Kroos and Andres Iniesta.
