Anthony Elanga was happy Manchester United got the result they deserved when they played Brentford on Wednesday evening.

The Red Devils beat the Bees at the Brentford Community Stadium, thanks to three second-half goals from academy stars Elanga, Mason Greenwood, and Marcus Rashford.

Ivan Toney pulled one back but it was too late to stir a comeback for the hosts, who spurned several chances in the first 45 minutes as David de Gea made three key saves.

Following the victory in west London, United goal scorer Elanga told BT Sport he is keen to improve and appreciates Ralf Rangnick.

"Second half we played our best football. We really stepped it up," The Swede said. "The first goal lifted the team, then the second and third goal came and it got better. When asked about his opening goal and working with interim manager Rangnick, the 19-year-old said: "The first touch set it up. I could see the keeper coming and I just had to head it in. "I want to continue to work hard and get more goals. I appreciate the boss so much. You can see the intensity we put in in training and can see that if you put in that work you get the results you deserve.

"David (de Gea) is a lifesaver, he is one of the best goalkeepers, I want him to keep doing what he's doing.

"It is a pleasure playing with Mason Greenwood and an honour to play with a great player like Cristiano Ronaldo."

Man United boss Rangnick, who was pleased the Reds turned up the intensity of their display in the second half, lavished praise on Elanga: "I must say from the very first day from my first training session, he showed up. l had heard his name before and I was in my hotel room watching videos of him on YouTube, I thought this boy was really good. He was almost on his way out on loan, I told him you will not go out on loan, you will stay here. He has developed in training. "I want us to play like Brentford in the second half, I have great respect for what they have done here. You wouldn't see that in Germany where a team not in the top five or eight would play that kind of football. We have to develop in that direction and if we do we can play the whole game like that, not just 45 minutes."

On Rashford's goal, the Bavarian said: "Hopefully raises his confidence. I see him in training and I hope. Jadon Sancho is missing today and hopefully will be back for Saturday. It is all about confidence, especially with the forward players." Asked about United’s next match against West Ham, he replied: "Big. We have to win the game on Saturday, they have not played during the week, only have three days and it would be helpful to have players that were not available today."
