Everton approaching Europa clash with knockout mentality.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez says his team are focused on the next 90 minutes they have against BSC Young Boys on Thursday night.

The Toffees travelled to Switzerland to play Uli Forte's team in the Europa League round of 32 first leg and Martinez says his team will approach the clash like it’s the only decider.

“Apart from the last game in the group (at home to Krasnodar), where we were top and already qualified, we wanted to take every game very much on an individual basis. The Everton boss explained in his press conference.

"Each one was 90 minutes where we needed to find a way of coping with the opposition, coping in a different environment if we were playing away from home, and tomorrow is going to be the same.

“Yes we have the second game at Goodison but I do find tomorrow’s game such a unique game because of the surface. The home team are in a very good moment of form and I don’t think we can afford to think of this as a 180-minute game. The focus is on this one.

“The squad is ready. I think we are starting to get into a stronger position in terms of numbers, there is competition for places and I very much look forward to every game as an opportunity to show how good we can be, regardless of which competition it is in, whether it be the knock-out phase or not.”
