Ex-Chelsea and Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson is not surprised that Mason Mount's decision to join Manchester United in the summer is facing scrutiny.
The 24-year-old Englishman made a high-profile move from his childhood club Chelsea to Manchester United in a transfer valued at up to £60 million, making him Erik ten Hag's first signing of the summer transfer window.
However, his transition to his new club has been far from smooth, marred by injuries that sidelined him from mid-August to late September. Mount has participated in only six matches across all competitions for the Red Devils, with no goals to his name and just a single assist in the Carabao Cup.
Comparatively, Chelsea have also encountered challenges this season, trailing United by just one point. Yet, the former Premier League star opines that players typically choose Manchester United with the ambition of contending for significant titles.
Speaking to Betfred, Glen expressed his doubt about Mount's decision, stating: "At the moment he will be. Manchester United is a prestigious football club, but one doesn't join them with the expectation of finding themselves in the tenth position of the Premier League. You join them to compete for major honours. While I'm not privy to why he left Chelsea, I'm confident he's questioning his decision right now."
