Former Manchester City midfielder Nicky Summerbee says his former side should target Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale rather than Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling.
The Citizens saw a £30million bid for the England youngster turned down on Thursday evening, and are demanding £50m for the Reds starlet.
However, Summerbee says Wales attacker Bale, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United, should be top of Man City’s transfer list - rather than Sterling.
“I wouldn’t pay £50million for Raheem Sterling,” the ex-Maine Road star told talkSPORT. “I would go and put in a bid for Gareth Bale if you’re going to spend big money.
“Raheem Sterling is not the finished article. He’s a great player and a great prospect but if you’re going to go for someone you’ve got to get Bale.
“If you’re going for real top quality you have to get Bale. Manchester City have the money.”
