Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says the FA Cup final would be the perfect send-off for his captain Steven Gerrard after their FA Cup 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon on Monday.
Steven Gerrard scored twice on the night to secure Liverpool's place in the FA Cup fourth round and Rodgers believes if they can get to the final which would be the former England captain's birthday, it would be a "wonderful send-off" for Gerrard.
"There would be no better way for it to end," the Liverpool boss told BBC Sport.
"Steven was outstanding. He gave a brilliant individual performance. He scored two and if he was a more selfish player he might have had a hat-trick."
"He's a world-class player who might be getting older, and at times the legs fatigue a bit, but he's absolute top drawer, a top-class player," Rodgers added.
"He has that real sprinkling of quality that this team needs. His two goals tonight were fantastic."
