Ferdinand enjoyed playing with Chicharito.

Former Leeds and Manchester United centre-half Rio Ferdinand reckons Louis van Gaal's decision to allow Javier Hernandez leave Old Trafford was wrong.

The 27-year-old has scored a total of 19 goals in 22 appearances for Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen and the former England international hailed the Mexican, saying he guarantees goals wherever he play.

"I loved Chicharito when I played with him," Ferdinand told The Sun. “He guaranteed you goals, even when he was rotated between being a starter and a substitute.

"But Van Gaal didn’t seem to know how to get the best out of him or wasn’t prepared to adapt to the little man’s way of playing."
