Fernando Torres has admitted that José Mourinho wanted him to stay at Chelsea this season.
The 30-year-old striker moved from Stamford Bridge to AC Milan on a two-year loan deal in the summer transfer window, after Chelsea permanently secured Diego Costa on a five-year contract from Atlético Madrid.
However, Torres who was criticised for below par performances during his time at Chelsea said Mourinho did not want him to leave the Bridge this summer.
“I had decided to leave Chelsea. With Mourinho there was a relationship of respect, but the club had bought a new striker,” Torres told Corriere dello Sport.
“With the coach I had spoken often about my future. He wanted me to stay in London, but I needed a new stimulus for my career.
“That day I received a phone call from Milan. I was presented with the offer I had been waiting for. I was at a particular moment in my career.”
