Five Unsettled Man Utd Players Told To Hold Off On Return – Reports

Updated: Jul 5

The Red Devils Take A Measured Approach As Transfer Talks Swirl Around Key Names

Manchester United have reportedly advised five of their unsettled stars to delay their return to pre-season training, with the club looking to give sides breathing room amid swirling transfer speculation.

According to the Daily Mail, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia were all initially expected to report back to Carrington on Monday morning. However, with each player exploring possible exits, United have opted for a pause – a decision that speaks volumes about the current flux inside the dressing room.

Rashford’s Future In Limbo, No.10 Shirt Handed Over

Rashford, who spent the latter part of the 2024-25 season on loan at Aston Villa after a very public fallout with manager Ruben Amorim, had been gearing up for a full pre-season. We already reported that Rashford was set to return for full pre-season on Monday. But with his iconic No.10 shirt now handed to new £62.5m signing Matheus Cunha, the writing seems to be on the wall.

While Rashford has been keeping fit with personal trainers in Marbella, questions linger: Is a move to Barcelona or Bayern on the cards, or could reconciliation still be possible?

Garnacho, Sancho, Antony Also Facing Uncertainty

Alejandro Garnacho’s relationship with Amorim reportedly soured after his reaction to being benched for the Europa League final. Now, the young Argentine winger is being monitored by clubs including Napoli, Chelsea, and Tottenham.

Sancho, meanwhile, is fresh off a loan spell at Chelsea that ended without a permanent deal. Juventus have shown interest, but salary hurdles remain. Antony had a productive stint at Real Betis and is keen on returning, but negotiations would be required for a permanent or obligation-based deal.

Malacia’s situation appears the most straightforward. His loan at PSV wasn’t extended, and he’s now back in limbo, unlikely to play a major role under Amorim.

Training Ground Open, But Eyes Are Elsewhere

Although the five players have been told not to report for regular training just yet, United will allow them access to the club's medical and rehab facilities at Carrington if needed. Should transfers not materialise, all five would be welcomed back, but it’s clear that the club is preparing for life beyond them.

Amorim Back Early, Eyes Fixed On Rebuild

Manager Ruben Amorim returned to Manchester on Friday, well ahead of the official start of pre-season, signalling a focused and forward-looking approach.

Fresh off a break in Portugal, the boss and his staff are now tasked with shaping a new era, one that may not include several familiar faces.
