Former Arsenal player says Arsenal were 'tactically clueless' on Tuesday night.

Paul Merson labelled the Gunners as ‘tactically clueless’ after they threw away a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Belgian side Anderlecht at the Emirates.

Arsene Wenger's men looked to be in cruise control to qualify for the second round along with Borussia Dortmund as Mikel Arteta broke the deadlock with a goal from the penalty spot, Alexis Sanchez made it 2-0 and Oxlade-Chamberlain increased the lead making it 3-0.

But the game changed in the last 30 minutes, when the visitors bounced back to seal a draw and left Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson ranting at the performance of the Arsenal team.

“I think they are tactically clueless, that’s an honest opinion,” said the former Arsenal man.

“This is not the first time it’s happened, it’s happened a lot. It’s absolutely clueless. For me the manager has to get a message on, but these are international footballers, they are not little kids.

"They play for their countries, in World Cups, in the Premier League, and they are all bombing forward. Surely something in your head, if you know football, you say let’s stop here, let’s have two banks of four, leave two up front and let them us break us down. It’s clueless as football knowledge.”

With two games left, Arsenal are 2nd in group D and need only a point to qualify for the next round.
