Full-back Tyrell Malacia will keep working hard for Man United.

Tyrell Malacia hails Man United teammates after victory over Nottingham Forest that closed the gap on the final top-four spot to a point.

"We are ready and we have to be ready to play for the Champions League. As a big club, we have to play in the Champions League every season, it's important."

Those were the words of Tyrell Malacia after Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Tuesday to close the gap on the final Champions League place.

The Red Devils started the match in flying colours and got their reward when Rashford converted Christian Eriksen’s assist from a corner kick in the 19th minute.

The goal came from a clever pre-planned corner-kick routine that allowed Rashford to break the deadlock following Forest's failure to defend properly.

And three minutes later, the England forward Rashford assisted Antony Martial, whose low shot struck goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey’s hand before rolling into the net.

Steve Cooper's men thought they had reduced United’s lead in the first half when Willy Bolly scored, but his goal got ruled out for offside after a lengthy VAR check.

United continued to boss the match and wrapped up a fourth successive victory in all competitions when substitute Fred latched onto Casemiro’s superb through ball in the 87th minute.

'We have to be in the Champions League'

United full-back Tyrell Malacia, speaking to Amazon Prime: "I think for us it was important to get the three points, get a clean sheet.

"We have the qualities [for it to have been more]. We keep improving. You see it in the training also, now we have to put it on the pitch.

"I think everyone has their role [in providing chances], the midfield, the full-backs, I will do everything to keep doing that."

On the importance of the clean sheet, the United summer signing Malacia replied: "It was different to normal and you see we have a lot of quality, even with this back four we could keep the clean sheet."

He added: "We are ready and we have to be ready to play for the Champions League. As a big club, we have to play in the Champions League every season, it's important."

The 19-year-old hailed the impact of centre-back Raphael Varane on Ten Hag's side: "Varane is a big player and has a lot of experience. He knows what he has to do and motivates us. Even with Luke Shaw there [in centre-back], he was talking all the time with me during the game so the connection was good."
