Ex-Barca president Gaspart: It would have been different if Real Madrid were top of the LaLiga table

The 2019-20 LaLiga campaign was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Former Barcelona president Joan Gaspart is convinced the 2019-20 LaLiga campaign would have been nullified if Real Madrid were top of the table when the COVID-19 pandemic brought the season to a halt.

The Spanish top-flight is set to return to action in June after it was suspended by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

Barcelona lead rivals Real Madrid by two points with 11 games left to play.

"If Madrid had finished as leader before the confinement, LaLiga would have ended," Gaspart, who was Barca president from 2000 to 2003, told Tertulia del 10 del Barca, via AS, on Wednesday.

Regarding reports linking PSG ace Neymar with a return move to the Camp Nou, Gaspart said: "I would love to see Neymar at Barca. I understand that he can still contribute.

"What I don't know is the fine print. I forgive what it takes to get him back. I would like him to play for Barca."
