Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has praised Pep Guardiola's influence on Leroy Sane as he believes the Manchester City boss has 'lit a fire' under the Germany international.

According to Souness, the Citizens are now enjoying Sane, who scored his eighth goal in his last 17 Premier League appearances as City thrashed managerless Huddersfield 3-0 on Sunday.

City struck twice in two minutes after the break to put the game to bed, with Sane creating the first and scoring the second at the John Smith's Stadium.

"There was something in his make-up that he needs that fire lighting," the former Reds midfielder told Sky Sports.

"He didn't go to the World Cup and Pep left him out at the beginning. Maybe it was the way he trained? Or his timekeeping? But Pep has lit the fire under him and Manchester City are getting the benefits in the second half of the season."

Sane has scored eight goals and registered 12 assists in his past 17 Premier League starts (eight goals, 12 assists).
