Kane has now scored 264 goals for Spurs, only two behind Jimmy Greaves' club record.

Harry Kane was pleased with how Tottenham Hotspur turned on the style in the second half and ran riot over Crystal Palace on Wednesday, beating them 4-0 at Selhurst Park.

The England captain Kane scored a double before goals from Matt Doherty and Heung-min Son helped Spurs close the gap on fourth-placed Manchester United.

Speaking after scoring his 198th goal in his first 300 Premier League appearances, beating Alan Shearer's old record of 196, Kane said he is 'feeling fit and fresh' and raring to go.

"I thought we started the game well," Spurs striker Kane told BBC Sport. "We pressed well and moved it in the first 15-20 minutes, but we lacked the final third delivery or shot. Then they had a better spell.

"At half-time, we got it back to moving and switching. In the final third, we were more creative and clinical. Two quick goals helped kill the game off.

"[The first goal] was nice. Ivan put a great ball in. The second one was something I practice a lot, quick touch and finish before the keeper can get set."

When asked about scoring more goals than Alan Shearer in his first 300 Premier League games, he replied: "It's always nice when you get spoken about with players like Alan. I have to keep it going. I'm feeling fresh and fit so hopefully can finish the season strong."

On Son Heung-min returning to scoring ways, he said: "I'm really happy for him. He's been working really hard. Sometimes you need a bit of luck to go your way. Hopefully, it can give him the confidence to kick-start the rest of his season.

"It was a really important three points away from home. It's not an easy game. Now it's about using this momentum in the games ahead."

Son - 'Hopefully this is a turning point for me'

Tottenham forward Son told Sky Sports: "This is a difficult place to come and play well. In the second half, we turned it around and scored four goals. We dominated the game in the second half."

On ending his goal drought, the South Korean explained: "It felt amazing. It was about time. I felt really sorry for the team because I think they are expecting I am doing more than I have done so I am hoping today is a turning point.

"I am working, we are working really hard to be consistent. The goal is always important to get confidence back, It was really, really important for me. I hope I can score many goals in the coming games."
