DI MARIA: I WANTED TO STAY AT REAL.
Argentina international Angel Di Maria - who bottled his stay at Old Trafford for a move to Ligue side PSG - has disclosed he never wanted to leave La Liga giants Real Madrid.
The winger sealed a move from the Bernabeu to Old Trafford last summer for a deal worth £59.7m, and left for the French league in August after it didn't work out well for the 27-year-old at United.
He told Spanish newspaper Marca: 'My intention was always to stay [at Madrid]. I don't really know what happened on the inside [of the deal] these are things that representatives deal with. It happens in football.'
When asked why his transfer to United didnt work out, he replied: 'I started very well but then I had problems with people at the club, I started being left on the bench, then my home was robbed. It all just made me want to get out of there as quickly as possible.'
He also revealed PSG's financial fair play issues were behind his reasons for moving to Old Trafford instead of Parc des Princes, Di Maria added: 'My move to PSG could have happened before this summer but it didn't for financial reasons and I ended up going to United. In the summer I had the chance to go there again and I could not say no.'
