Manchester United secured the services of Anthony Martial on Deadline Day from Ligue 1 side Monaco.
And, while on international duty with France, the new striker, who cost the Red Devils £36million, told the media: "My family were really happy for me going to such a big club as Manchester United. They were definitely a bit nervous because of my high price, but I’m going to stay focused on proving my worth.
"[Louis van Gaal] asked me my preferred position… I prefer to play in the centre. He told me I could play in a number of positions. It’s the coach’s decision, and whichever position I do, I’ll do the best I can.
"I’m going there for the football side of things, the price is between the two clubs. Since I was young, I’ve been told I have the right characteristics to play in England.
"I’m really keen to develop my game and next to [Wayne Rooney] I’ll improve my game a lot."
