Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante is optimistic about his side playing in the Champions League next season and believes they can get a good result at Anfield on Thursday.

The champions lost four home matches on the trot in the Premier League after going unbeaten at home in the English top-flight since April 2017. But, after securing a comfortable 2-0 win against basement side Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Sunday, the Reds moved just a point behind Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea.

All in all, French midfield marshal Kante feels the west London Blues will go into the match against Liverpool in high spirits, hoping to register a win that would boost their chances of playing in Europe's elite competition next term.

"It is an important game for us, we are very close in the league," the Frenchman told Sky Sports.

"We go there for a win. We know that it is not going to be easy but we go with hope, and I'm sure that we can get a good result from Anfield."

There are still several sides in contention for a top-four spot for the remainder of the campaign, and Kante knows it won't be an easy task, especially with the likes of Everton and Tottenham still pushing for the same prize.

"Now it's our challenge to get this position," he continued. "Man Utd, Leicester, and West Ham are ahead of us, but we still have many games to play, and if we're doing well then we have the ability to get this position.

"We need to fight for it, to prepare for it, and to do everything we can to get in this top four."
