Jurgen Klopp has issued a rallying cry to his Liverpool team asking them for a "restart" after their unbeaten Premier League run came to an end on Saturday.

The German believes his side conceding a little knock sometimes is important.

The Merseyside club were thrashed 3-0 by Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday evening as their 44-game unbeaten league run came to an end, thanks to Ismaïla Sarr’s double and a brilliant strike from Troy Deeney.

Klopp’s Reds still hold a 22-point lead at the Premier League summit and they are set for a restart heading into the final months of the 2019-20 campaign.

"Sometimes a little knock is important. So I don't see anything negative in it," Klopp told UK newspapers.

"From time to time if you are not good enough, you need to see [the] effect. Not good enough – what happens then? So restart.

"Maybe the longer the run goes maybe it becomes more important. But I didn't see that. Now it is over. We can start again with whatever we did before, and we will."

As things stand, Klopp does not know how his team would react following their first Premier League defeat of the season.

"You cannot win the amount of games the boys have done if they are easily influenced by the outside world, and we will see how they react," said the former Borussia Dortmund boss.

"But I don't know because I've never won 18 games in a row and didn't lose 44 – first time in my life. How they react we shall see."

Liverpool return to action on Tuesday night, when they travel to Chelsea for their FA Cup fifth round clash at Stamford Bridge.
