Liverpool great Jamie Carragher: "The way Chelsea are playing, for a champion, is shocking.&quo

Chelsea have no chance of retaining the Premier League title, according to former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

The Blues continued their poor start to the season as they lost 3-1 to Southampton at Stamford Bridge.

The Saints came from a goal down to seal the win, as Steven Davis, Sadio Mane and Graziano Pelle all scored to hand Ronald Koeman's side three points, compounding Mourinho's woes.

And, when Carragher was asked if Chelsea are out of the title race, the Reds great replied: "Without a doubt. They're now facing a battle to reach the top four."

"Last season we were very critical of Man City and their lack of desire and appetite. This is a lot worse.

"The way they are playing, for a champion, is shocking. I've never seen anything like this in the Premier League era.

"The biggest worry for Jose Mourinho is not the results. He has built his success on players running through a brick wall for him.

"Now they are slow and laboured, and look like they're running through quicksand. They're not playing for him."
