Former Liverpool forward John Barnes is convinced summer signing Christian Benteke will form a fruitful partnership with Daniel Sturridge at Anfield and is a better purchase than Mario Balotelli.
The Belgian sealed his move from Aston Villa to Liverpool in the summer and has scored a few goals for the Reds with his most recent in their 3-1 defeat to United at Old Trafford were he scored with a stunning bicycle kick.
However, Barnes is confident Christian Benteke - who is an upgrade from Balotelli - will form a fine partnership with Sturridge.
"Balotelli and Benteke are completely different players," Barnes was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.
"Benteke loves high balls, he's strong, he's got a great attitude and he runs the channels, whereas Balotelli is different.
"It's a completely different partnership [Sturridge and Benteke compared to Sturridge and Balotelli].
"Benteke is a completely different kettle of fish. He has a much better attitude, so I'm hopeful he'll be a better option alongside Sturridge."
Benteke is recovering from the hamstring injury he picked up in their tie against Norwich City on Sunday.
