Louis van Gaal says no one will walk into his starting XI after being sidelined or suspended, including the Manchester United and England captain.
Louis van Gaal has warned Wayne Rooney that he must “earn” his place back in the Manchester United team when he returns from suspension.
Wayne Rooney will miss tonight's battle involving Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns after he was shown a red card in the Reds 2-1 win over the Hammers before the international break.
And the Old Trafford boss told reporters that no one has a secured place in his team.
“Nobody is walking back in my team, believe me,” said Louis van Gaal.
“You have to earn it on the training ground, but every player here already knows that.
“I have always said that just because players have the best name, it doesn't mean that they are the best for the team.
“I am always looking for a constant level of performance – from the team and from individual players.”
